Cancun and the Caribbean get lumped together in most people's minds as one all-inclusive resort strip, and that's exactly the assumption a well-planned trip has to work against. The British Virgin Islands make sense for a private sailing charter between islands; a single resort stay doesn't do that geography justice. Jamaica's interior, the Blue Mountains, the waterfalls past Ocho Rios, gets skipped entirely by visitors who never leave their resort property. Knowing which island or which stretch of Mexican coast actually matches what a client wants, quiet versus social, all-inclusive versus à la carte, matters more here than almost anywhere else Breakout plans.

For clients with the means to go anywhere and the standards to know when a trip has been assembled rather than built, the Caribbean and Mexico's Caribbean coast offer something genuinely rare: proximity to the U.S. combined with the kind of variety usually associated with trips twice the distance. A private villa in Turks and Caicos, a sailing charter through the BVIs, or a considered week split between Tulum's ruins and a quieter stretch of coast south of Cancun, all of it sits within a few hours of most U.S. gateways, which makes the region as suited to a long weekend as it is to a two-week itinerary.
